Acadia National Park
Sieur de Monts Spring This project involved rehabilitation of one of the core historic sites of Acadia National Park. The highly visited site features the historic spring house, nature center, Abbe Museum, access to the Wild Gardens of Acadia and trail heads. The plan called for consolidating and upgrading walkways and gathering areas, improving accessibility and way-finding to buildings and site features, creating a transit stop for the Island Explorer bus system and providing outdoor space for educational programs. New pathways from site landmarks, trailheads and parking areas converge at the new stone terrace, which provides an accessible entrance to the Nature Center. The stone seating wall that frames the west end of the terrace provides areas for interpretive activities and helps direct pedestrians around the building to remote site features.
