Associates designed a series of connected courtyards
and garden areas within the academic core of the College
of the Atlantic campus. Named for a principal benefactor
of the college, the garden serves as a central gathering
and seating area, providing a focus for outdoor social
activity. The design integrated the elements of a traditional
Maine coastal garden-ledge, topographic relief, and
native and familiar plant materials-with the requirement
of a high use pedestrian activity area.
